Music Genre Classification with Python

Authors: Giovanni Mazzocchin (1156318) and Alex Beccaro (1156235)

In this report we describe the main steps we carried out to implement a simple yet effective classifier for audio files. An automatic classifier for music files can be a much convenient tool for a desktop user: imagine she has lots of, say, WAV files containing jazz, pop or classical pieces all put in a single messy folder, or think about a meticulous classical music enthusiast who can hardly bear having Beethoven's and Brahms' symphonies on the same spot on her computer.
All of these tasks can be performed in a decent fashion thanks to smart extraction of sound-based features and multiple class classification techniques stemming from Machine Learning.
